• Overcoming fear through faith

I remember my mentor making a statement “Your fear will rob you”. I really thought about it and realized that, that was a true saying. When we allow fear to dominate our thoughts it will eventually prevent us from becoming what God intended us to be.

The truth is fear can steal your dreams. You may be afraid of failure. You may be afraid of rejection. You may not want to make a fool of yourself. You may be afraid of trying because you believe you can’t succeed. If you give in to these thoughts and believe that you can’t achieve your dream, you’ll be right—and therefore unable to achieve your dream. Often what we fear has no connection to reality. But here’s the good news: Fear can be overcome. So how can we overcome fear?

    1) You have to realize that fear is a spirit and is not from God. The scripture says in 2 Timothy 1:7- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. God will not give you something that will rob you of your destiny. He doesn’t give and take away but God is a good God that gives and gives again. So know that He is a good God and loves you.

    2) Know that God has great plans and promises for you in Jeremiah 29:11(NIV) -For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

    3) Start spending time in prayer & meditate on His God’s promises purposefully.

For example begin to meditate these promises-

2 Timothy 1:7- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Psalm 23:4-Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid?

    4) Believe & start speaking His word in faith.

So you want to overcome your fears? Spend time in God’s Word. Prioritize your prayer life & declare His word over your circumstances in faith!

  • Hearing His Voice - Habakkuk 2:1-4

Just like a child loves to hear His Dad’s voice so it is with the born again experience.

When we become born again, our lives are no longer ours we have being bought with a price. We cannot live our lives business as usual. Therefore it’s important for us to grow in our relationship with God by studying His word and Hearing His voice.

The more we study the scriptures His spirit will speak to our spirit and then faith comes as we hear His word then we is able to what He has spoken to us.

Hearing God is the birthright of the born again believer, John 10 v 27;28, Acts 2:17, 18, So hearing God’s voice is so important for our spiritual growth. As we hear His voice and obey what he tells us no matter how the situation is. From the passage in Habakkuk, I would like to share with you 5 keys to hearing God’s voice.

    1. Meet with the Lord regularly in a special place of prayer: “I will stand on my watch”

    2. Look for God to speak to you in dreams and visions: “I will watch and see”

    3. Listen for the word of the Lord: “He will say to me”

4 keep a journal of things that God says: Writ the vision”

5 Wait for the Lord to bring it to pass: “It will surely come”

So I will encourage you to listen for His voice and obey. Our obedience to His voice is the key that opens up His blessings in our lives… If you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the Land. Isaiah 1:19

  • Get Going!

Sometime ago during the school half term, I wanted to get out and about with the kids- to go to the shops, library, drop something off in town, pick up my son’s prescription from the surgery, drop a note for the printer and so on.... However as we were about to go out it started to rain, I mean the heavens opened. Now my first thought was my God, it’s raining, let’s just stay at home and postpone the appointments, but no I knew these things had to be done so I got the kids rain coats on , got out the umbrella and set off to the car. I was determined that come rain or sunshine, I was going to keep these appointments. Guess what?............... as we drove out of the drive, about 15 minutes later, the rain was gradually stopping and by the time we came back home about an hour and half later, the rain had completely stopped and the sun came out.

I just felt a lesson being learnt from this. Sometimes when we set out to do something for God, a project, a vision for your life that he has laid on your heart, there would also be opposition but we have to be determined to get going no matter what and as we do so, these opposition will eventually be stepping stones for us. And we will accomplish the tasks and move on to the next level. So I encourage you today to get going ….
